The Danish television series “The heirs” is about a family divided by the heritage their mother left behind. One of her sons was arrested in season one in Thailand on a drug charge because his former business partner set him up and sold him out.
Now here in season 2 the son is out on bail. His lawyer informs him that the judge has taken his sisters money in exchange for a reduced charge.
It confirms the general view of the legal conditions in Thailand and similar countries in that region. Justice can be bought. In general it is better to stay away and leave their crippled society alone.
A number of Danes have been exposed to what is close to blackmail. I search a little on the website covering Danes who have been exposed to alleged xenophobia abroad and found a story about a 15 year old Danish boy who fell victim to an insurance fraud which went bad when the fraudster died when he attempted to let it look like an accident. In some countries people live of jumping in front of cars or boat and then claim that they were injured.
The boy and his family had to pay a large sum to escape Thailand without charges. The simple morale is that some countries should be avoided. Nice to have in confirmed by Denmark’s Radio as mainstream entertainment.
